Whenever I held my newborn baby in my arms,
I used to think that what I said and did to him
could have an influence not only on him but
on all whom he met, not only for a day or a month or a year,
but for all eternity - a very challenging and exciting thought for a mother.

Influence
Whether we like it or not, we have influence over other people and especially the littlest people in our lives. They look up to us for guidance, mentoring and they watch every move we make and hear every word that comes out of our mouths. Sometimes we wish they didn't watch us so intently! But the truth is they do and so do a lot of other people. So if we know this to be true, are we living our lives the way we should be? Are we watching our words (since we know they have power), especially the bad ones? Are we being kind, thoughtful and emulating how we feel people should be treated? Or are we telling them to be nice, yet we curse out everyone around us (including our family members)? Are we trying to teach them to share yet we are always looking for what's in it for us? Are we volunteering to take on projects yet we complain to others about all the things that are on our plates? Are we telling everyone else how they should be raising their kids yet ours are going around being hurtful and behaving badly? Before we "try" and be someone that exemplifies leadership and compassion, we need to "be" that person first. We need to walk the walk and talk the talk. Understand that we have influence over everyone in our lives. Hopefully we will choose to be a positive influence rather than the opposite.
